Dr. Guthrie has held faculty appointments to the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Emory & Henry College School of Allied Health Sciences, and Lincoln Memorial University School of Medical Sciences, educating the future health professionals of our community and country including physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
Dr. Guthrie is a volunteer psychiatrist at the Mel Leaman Free Clinic in Marion, VA, which serves the uninsured and working poor with high quality, accessible, comprehensive primary care, dental, and mental health services.
Dr. Guthrie has been an investigator in clinical trials of innovative psychiatric treatments and presented research on the topic of Miranda warning readability and competency to give confession.
Dr. Guthrie is a member of the Christian Medical Association (CMDA) and the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS).
Dr. Guthrie is the founder and president of His Right Mind Ministries where they support current and aspiring biblical counselors
Credentials
Upon receiving his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree, Dr. Guthrie completed internship, general psychiatry residency, and forensic psychiatry fellowship training at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center / LSU Health in Shreveport, Louisiana, serving as chief resident.
Dr. Guthrie is board certified in both Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry and a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He has been in private practice since 2012 with active medical licenses in Virginia, and 9 other states.

My passion is putting faith into practice by providing compassionate mental health care and mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals and biblical counselors to excel in clinical knowledge, skill and compassion for patients and neighbors. I fulfill this calling in private practice (Guthrie Psychiatry), as a volunteer psychiatrist at the Mel Leaman Free Clinic in Marion, VA and with His Right Mind Ministries.
