Why We Test
What are your symptoms?
What is going on in your body that may be causing them?
Your brain depends on the rest of your body. Nutrients, minerals, and genes can all affect mood, focus, sleep, and worry. Lab tests help Dr. Guthrie see what's going on inside your body, so he can build a plan for you instead of guessing.
Your Required Tests
Every new patient completes the tests below. For the genetic test, Dr. Guthrie will pick either Genomind or IntellxxDNA. You will not need both.

How Lab Payment Works
Your visit fees pay for Dr. Guthrie's time. Your lab fees go to the lab. That's it.
About Dr. Guthrie
Dr. Guthrie is a board-certified psychiatrist. After medical school and psychiatry residency, he went on to train in functional and integrative psychiatry through Psychiatry Redefined.
Psychiatry Redefined was founded by Dr. James Greenblatt, a leader in this field and author of Finally Focused. The program teaches doctors to look for the deeper reasons behind mental health symptoms using lab testing, nutrition, and medicine together.
Our Approach to Medication
Dr. Guthrie uses medication carefully and only when it's truly needed.
- He starts with what your labs show.
- He looks at nutrition, lifestyle, and the body first.
- If medicine is needed, he uses the lowest dose that helps.
- He's happy to talk with you about lowering or stopping medicine, when it's safe to do so.
His goal is to find why you're struggling, not just cover up the symptoms.
Is This the Right Fit for You?
We may be a great fit if you:
- Want to understand what's behind your symptoms
- Are open to lab testing as part of your care
- Like the idea of using as little medicine as possible
- Want a plan that may include nutrition, supplements, and lifestyle changes
- Are ready to take an active part in your treatment
We may not be the right fit if you:
- Don't want to do the required lab tests
- Are mainly looking for a prescription
- Want a quick visit without a deeper look
That's okay. Every person deserves care that matches what they want. If testing isn't right for you, a traditional psychiatry practice may be a better fit, and we're glad to help you find one. We can't offer our approach without the tests, because they guide every step of your plan.
What About Insurance?
We do not bill insurance. You pay us directly for your visits.
Quick Answers
Can I skip the labs?
No. All new patients have to do the testing. Without it, Dr. Guthrie can't provide functional psychiatry care.
How much do the labs cost in total?
About $1,430 to $2,775. The total depends on which genetic test Dr. Guthrie picks for you. See the chart above for each test.
Do I need both genetic tests?
No. Dr. Guthrie will choose the one that's best for you.
Does insurance cover the labs?
Some labs may work with insurance or accept HSA/FSA cards. Check with the lab directly.
Do you get paid when I order labs?
No. We don't earn anything from your lab tests.
Will I have to take medication?
Not always. Dr. Guthrie uses medicine carefully and only when it's needed. Many plans start with nutrition and lifestyle changes.
When do I pay for my visit?
Payment is due at the time of your visit.
